The link above (which I suspect I cannot legally post on this site) is a funny take from the comic Brewster Rocket on performance reviews. Worth a click through.

Whatever you did, you could have done more.

me, paraphrasing

I have a sense that in the post COVID world many employees are not willing to accept this approach to management – which I experienced very intimately as a young engineer.

Good for them I say. Our workplace has recently unionized. I would say that the initial impetuous was a back work mandate. But on top of that were a number of issues of work-life balance and pay inequities.

In my humble opinion, a union is an unadulterated good thing and provides a more level playing field between management and staff. When I am really waxing poetic I tend to discuss unions as an unabashedly pro-democratic expression of our shared American ideals.

I recall a while back all the chatter about the different work styles of the boomers, versus Gen Xers (yours truly), and Millennials. In particular about the slacker spirit of Millennials. All I can say is that is so so wrong. After watching that generation organize for the Union, I have to take my hat off to them for their amazing work, dedication, steadfastness of purpose, and sense of social justice. Bravo!

Go AFGE 1444 and Happy May Day!
